The organisation was set up in South London in 1971, and we now have centres across the UK offering residential treatment for men and women to help them reclaim and rebuild their lives through recovery in a safe and supported environment.
Along with our unique specialist treatment centres for men and women, we offer relapse prevention and aftercare programmes. We also deliver a unique Retreat & Counselling programme that combines short-stay residential treatment with ongoing at-home support.
These programmes provide seamless care and support for those in treatment along with friends and family support to help those who are affected by a loved one’s gambling harms.
Job Summary
The Head of Therapy is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing and managing all the therapeutic services within our organisation. This position requires a dynamic individual with a strong clinical background and exceptional management skills. The Head of Therapy will lead a team of therapists, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care and implementing best practices in therapeutic interventions.
They will hold a clinical caseload including complex cases, support clinical staff through training, clinical supervision and line management, and be responsible for leading programme development and contributing to the planned diversification of services.
They will support the Clinical Director in their role and develop clinical expertise to apply within core training. To work within the framework of BACP requirements to provide specialist CBT / Counselling supervision across the Therapy Team, as necessary.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the therapy team, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
- Line manage the team of Gordon Moody’s Therapists to the highest standard ensuring they have up-to-date knowledge and effective application of therapeutic approaches.
- Develop and train Gordon Moody’s team of Therapists; conducting appraisals and 1 – 1 supervision.
- Act as a trailblazer in the approach to addiction therapy, applying proven effective approaches to the diversification of therapeutic services within Gordon Moody.
- Conduct regular assessments of therapy services, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and organisational policies.
- Apply expert knowledge of regulation and safeguarding within the Therapeutic sector by working with the Clinical Governance Lead to ensure standards are maintained across programmes.
- Delivering directly within programmes as a subject matter expert in the following range of treatment styles including motivational interviewing, CBT and EMDR.
- Report on programme completion, success and effectiveness as required to the Executive Team and external commissioners.
- To take part in regular reviews of Gordon Moody’s Programmes to ensure a clear, continuous improvement and consistent approach across the organisation’s application of treatment.
- 1. To ensure the delivery of quality and evidence-based interventions, partaking in audits and observing practice within programmes.
- Ensure the correct processes are being followed by Therapists including clinical supervision, team meetings, clinical meetings and handovers within the teams.
- Attend SLT and Service Delivery Meetings as the lead Therapist within the organisation and relevant external meetings on behalf of Gordon Moody.
- To maintain personal membership with BACP and lead Gordon Moody’s BACP quality assurance/monitoring procedures.
- Other associated duties will also be required, in line with the required remit of this role as necessary.
Person Specification:
Essential:
- BACP Qualified to minimum Level 5.
- Registered and Accredited Member of BACP (or equivalent), with at least 3 years post-qualification experience.
- Diploma in Clinical Supervision.
- Expert knowledge and experience in using CBT, Motivational Interviewing and EMDR.
- Experience in delivering training.
- Evidence of continuing professional development and willingness to develop.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
- IT proficient in using Microsoft Office, Outlook and any other required software programmes.
- Experience in working within a Health and Social Care Environment e.g. Residential, Mental Health or Addiction Treatment Service.
- Experience in offering Clinical Supervision.
- Proven experience in managing large teams effectively.
- Experience in therapeutic interventions and delivering group and 1-1 sessions within a residential setting.
- Ability to effectively performance manage a team.
- Ability to work at a strategic level as part of a Senior Leadership Team.
- Ability to evidence a commitment to our values.
Desirable:
- Degree in a related field (counselling, psychology etc).
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills
- Experience using patient databases
- Motivational Interviewing Trainers Training and Membership
- Experience of working within a gambling harm setting.
- Experience working with various addictions such as smartphones, gaming, and shopping.
