We are looking for a recovery house support worker to provide effective support to the established Gordon Moody residential rehabilitation programme in a way that enables clients to overcome their addiction to gambling and move forward to recovery and independent living.

The residential programme in Wolverhampton provides structured support to women aged over 18 years with severe gambling history, through a six-week residential stay.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead on the induction of new residents by providing key information, ensuring initial needs and concerns are identified and met, and helping them settle in.
  • Prepare their room, safe storage of personal items, and property checks.
  • Lead on housing benefits – support, monitor, and update records of residents to ensure they complete and submit an application with the local benefits office.
  • Assist and ensure residents are registered with local facilities such as GPs, and housing and welfare benefits departments, and accompany them to appointments where appropriate.
  • Liaise with a range of health, justice, and social care agencies to support residents’ needs and recovery, including other gambling treatment providers.
  • Assist and provide advocacy for residents with communication issues where appropriate by addressing problems on an individual basis or within in-house meetings.
  • Support residents to develop their living skills through groups, workshops, and one-to-ones.
  • Support residents to plan for indoor and outdoor recreational and recovery-based activities.
  • Support residents to meet their wider health and social care needs, whilst in treatment and on exit to the community.
  • Support the service to ensure rent payments are made and arrears are managed.
  • Undertake monthly health and safety checks of communal areas, staff areas, and residents’ rooms, reporting and arranging any repairs required.
  • Support the therapists in the delivery of the programme, through co-facilitating or covering group sessions.
  • Support the development of the programme through evaluation, continuous improvement and development projects.
  • Proactively support the work of the organisation with external stakeholders.
  • Partake in learning and development opportunities, for personal development and to maintain up-to-date knowledge within the field.
  • Uphold and demonstrate Gordon Moody’s core values at all times.
  • Carry out required administration functions including correspondence; monitoring; data capture; and updating the electronic case management database – ensuring quality record-keeping at all times.
  • Partake in available support structures, including managerial supervision, team meetings, clinical meetings and handovers.

Specification:

Essential:

  • Level 3 NVQ Advice and Guidance or equivalent.
  • Strong organisational skills such as support planning within vulnerable groups.
  • Efficient communication skills to complete both written and verbal reporting.
  • A broad understanding of risk, incident, and safeguarding processes.
  • The ability to negotiate, advocate, advise, and signpost.
  • To be able to build and establish working relationships with partner agencies.
  • Have the ability to handle crises and the flexibility to meet a number of needs.
  • To be able to work independently, as part of a team, and in the wider organisation.

Desirable: 

  • Experience working in a structured health and social care environment.
  • Have knowledge and experience of the benefits system.
  • Completed training in therapeutic approaches.
  • Worked directly with vulnerable people and/or groups.
  • Experience in facilitating group work within vulnerable groups.

Working hours: 

14 hours across seven days, between 9 am-9 pm.
