As the holy month of Ramadan draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the profound lessons it brings, not just as a Muslim, but as a leader, a mother, a daughter, and a professional with many responsibilities.

Ramadan is more than just a month of fasting. It is a period of spiritual purification, self-discipline, and heightened awareness of our purpose. It is a time to strengthen our connection with God, to practice gratitude, and to cultivate a deep sense of empathy for those who are less fortunate. Through fasting, prayer, and acts of charity, we are reminded of the importance of patience, humility, and selflessness. These values are not just integral to personal growth but also essential qualities of strong, compassionate leadership.

Balancing faith, life, and leadership is no easy feat. As the CEO of Gordon Moody, a leader in gambling addiction treatment, my role is deeply rooted in service. I am also a mother of three, a carer for my own mother, a non-executive director, and an advocate for positive change across various sectors. Ramadan amplifies the importance of managing these roles with care, ensuring that in the pursuit of professional success, I do not lose sight of my faith, my family, or my personal well-being.

Leadership during Ramadan requires more than just managing responsibilities. It calls for intentionality. Fasting from dawn to dusk teaches patience and resilience. It reminds us to slow down, to be present, and serve others and that whatever we do, to do it with kindness, humility and understanding.  It reinforces the idea that it’s not just about our actions, but how we carry them out and uplift others along the way.

At Gordon Moody, and across all my roles, I strive to foster an environment where people feel seen, heard, and valued. Ramadan has reminded me of the importance of compassion in leadership, whether it’s offering flexibility to those who are fasting, being mindful of colleagues’ needs, or simply creating a workplace culture where faith and personal commitments are respected. True leadership is about recognising the whole person, not just their professional contributions.

This month has also been a time of immense gratitude, for my team, our partners, the individuals we support, and the collective effort to drive meaningful change. As we celebrate Eid, I want to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone who plays a role in our shared mission.

Your dedication and support make a difference every day.

As we step into the joyous occasion of Eid, it is a time to celebrate, to give thanks, and to renew our commitment to leading with integrity and purpose. Eid is a reminder that after a period of reflection and challenge comes a time of joy and togetherness. It is a celebration of resilience, of community, and of the shared values that unite us all, regardless of faith or background.

To my colleagues, our partners, those who use our services, and all who walk this journey with us – Eid Mubarak. May this day bring you peace, happiness, and continued strength in all that you do.  Let us continue everything we do with empathy, balance, and purpose, not just during Ramadan, but in every season of life.

Eid Mubarak
