On Gambling Harms Awareness Day, Gordon Moody is proud to announce the signing of former professional footballer Dean Sturridge as the charity’s new official ambassador. As a respected figure both on and off the pitch, Sturridge’s commitment to tackling social issues aligns perfectly with Gordon Moody’s mission to provide support and treatment for those affected by gambling-related harm.
As striker, Sturridge played in the Premier League for Derby County, Leicester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Now, he will bring that same passion, drive and his own personal untold story to help those whose lives have been affected by gambling harm.
“I’m incredibly excited to be joining Gordon Moody as their ambassador,” said Sturridge. “After my career in football, I’ve seen firsthand how important it is to use your platform to create positive change. Gambling addiction is an issue that affects countless lives, and through this partnership and by sharing my own experiences with gambling harm, I hope to raise awareness, offer support, and make a real difference.”
Having been established in 1971 by Reverend Gordon Moody, who also bought Gamblers Anonymous to the UK, the charity has been at the forefront of providing help and support for individuals struggling with gambling-related harm for more than 50 years.
Gordon Moody CEO, Monica Shafaq said after securing his services: Dean’s decision to join Gordon Moody as an ambassador is a game-changer for our mission, not only does he bring the dedication and discipline of a top-level athlete, but his own lived experience gives him a unique and powerful voice in the conversation around gambling harm. From tackling opponents on the pitch to tackling the stigma and challenges of gambling addiction, Dean’s passion, integrity, and firsthand understanding will inspire others to seek help and show that recovery is possible.
As Gordon Moody continues its vital work in the fight against gambling-related harm, Sturridge’s involvement will be instrumental in reaching a wider audience, particularly among those who may not have previously recognized the signs of gambling addiction or sought help.
