Gordon Moody is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to providing support and treatment for those severely affected by gambling harms. The organisation was set up in South London in 1971, and we now have centres across the UK offering residential treatment for men and women to help them reclaim and rebuild their lives through recovery in a safe, supported environment.
Along with our unique specialist treatment centres for men and women, we offer recovery housing that provides residential relapse prevention and aftercare programmes. We also deliver a unique Retreat & Counselling programme that combines short-stay residential treatment with ongoing at-home support.
These programmes provide seamless care and support for those in treatment along with friends and family support to help those who are affected by a loved one’s gambling harms.
We are looking to recruit a Gambling Therapist who will be required to provide effective support to the Gordon Moody treatment programme in a way that enables service users to overcome their addiction to gambling and move forward to recovery and independent living.
You will provide therapeutic treatment that sustains a person’s recovery throughout their journey from assessment through to the end of treatment.
Areas of Responsibility:
Service Delivery
- To provide appropriate recovery-focused therapeutic advice and support to assist residents in addressing their gambling harms, and empower residents to identify and achieve their goals to meet their wider health and social care needs.
- To manage a caseload of residents through structured one-to-one, group-work interventions, and activities using a range of therapeutic approaches, including CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness and Person-Centred techniques.
- To signpost and assist with referrals as necessary to other services or external agencies as required, in liaison with the Service Manager and Mental Health Coordinator.
- To ensure effective and seamless handover of ongoing support and relapse management needs from the treatment stage to the recovery stage.
- To ensure prompt identification, reporting and management of any risks, incidents and safeguarding following due processes.
- To carry out required administrative functions, including correspondence, monitoring, report writing, data capture, and updating the electronic case management database, ensuring quality record keeping at all times.
- To take part in regular reviews of the programme to ensure a clear, continuous improvement and consistent approach across the organisation’s wider treatment programmes.
- To ensure the delivery of quality and evidence-based interventions, partaking in audits or observations of practice as required.
- To partake in available support structures, including managerial supervision, clinical supervision, team meetings, clinical meetings and handovers as required.
- Other associated duties will also be required, in line with the required remit of this role as necessary.

Person Specification:
Specialist Knowledge and Qualifications:
- Educated to Diploma Level 4 in Counselling BACP.
- CBT and/or Motivational Interviewing training.
- Evidence of continuing professional development and willingness to develop.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
- IT proficient in using Microsoft Office, Outlook, and any other required software programmes.
Experience, Skills and Abilities:
- Experience in working within a Health and Social Care Environment e.g., residential, mental health, or addiction treatment service.
- Experience of therapeutic interventions and delivering group or one-to-one sessions within a residential setting.
- Experience and knowledge of using a case management system to record any risk, incident management, and daily outcome records.
- Experience in planning and facilitating structured group work with vulnerable and challenging groups.
- Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and as part of a wider organisation.
- Ability to evidence a commitment to our values.
