Gordon Moody is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to providing support and treatment for those severely affected by gambling harms. The organisation was set up in South London in 1971, and we now have centres across the UK offering residential treatment for men and women to help them reclaim and rebuild their lives through recovery in a safe and supported environment.

Along with our unique specialist treatment centres for men and women, we offer relapse prevention and aftercare programmes. We also deliver a unique Retreat & Counselling programme that combines short-stay residential treatment with ongoing at-home support.

These programmes provide seamless care and support for those in treatment, along with friends and family support to help those who are affected by a loved one’s gambling harms.

Job Summary: 

Working as part of the Lived Experience team to coordinate the Lived Experience offer within the organisation. Leading virtual and face-to-face groups and supporting the Lived Experience Manager to deliver training to Lived Experience Volunteers and Peer Mentors. Managed the pool of Lived Experience Volunteers and coordinated relevant activities internally and
externally.

Responsibilities:

  • Working within the Lived Experience Team, to lead Peers and Volunteers in the embedding of Gordon Moody’s service user engagement strategy and to ensure that the voice of lived experience is visible throughout the organisation and at every level.
  • Lead on the development of a pool of lived experience volunteers to support the work of Gordon Moody.
  • Deliver a training programme for Lived Experience Peer Mentors and volunteers who will become integral to supporting people within the treatment pathway.
  • Delivering a weekly relapse prevention programme for service users
  • Delivering a weekly lived experience programme for service users
  • Collection of follow-up outcome information at regular intervals post treatment, inputting this data, collating and reporting on results.
  • Coordinating the development of service user involvement plans, including the development of an Alumni meeting twice annually.
  • Working collaboratively with other Gordon Moody Programmes and central teams for integrated working and shared objectives.
  • Supporting service users and staff team during the delivery of the residential retreat programmes within the remit of the Lived Experience Team.
  • To promote and ensure that the Lived Experience Team are the point of contact for people with lived experience wanting to volunteer with the charity or become peer mentors.
  • To foster relationships with lived experience organisations, advisory groups and communities to improve engagement and enhance the organisation’s position with the lived experience recovery community.
  • To keep abreast of the best practice and excellence in coproduction and service user engagement.
  • Be an ambassador for Gordon Moody’s culture, values and behaviours.

Specification: 

Essential: 

  • GCSE or Above in English (or equivalent)
  • Willingness to engage in learning and development, including training, relevant to the role.
  • Experience in the field of problematic addiction either as a practitioner or as lived experience within the gambling field would be advantageous.
  • Demonstrable experience of supporting emotionally vulnerable individuals.
  • Ability to deliver and understanding of recovery-oriented systems of care.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with a variety of stakeholders and collaborate as a team.
  • Ability to work on own initiative, manage a caseload effectively and flexibly.
  • Ability to promptly identify, report and act on risk, safeguarding or other concerns.
  • Ability to understand and work comfortably with different needs and diversities.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the shared values and objectives of the organisation.

Desirable: 

  • Health and Social Care IAG qualification or equivalent.
  • Counselling, Social Care or Mental Health qualification.
  • Addiction qualification or training.
  • Safeguarding (adults or children) training.
  • Peer support or Service User involvement training.
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD.
  • Experience in delivering therapeutic support.
  • Experience in care planning.
  • Experience in managing a caseload.
  • Experience of working in a recovery service.
