The pain, the anger, the overwhelming need

Caused by the addiction that I had to feed

Every day I’d get my fix

Lies and money were thrown in the mix

Why oh why I’d often wonder

Was my life thrown so asunder?

Hindsight is such a wonderful thing

Now I know the addiction was King

With an iron rod it ruled my life

More hurt surely couldn’t be caused by a knife

There came I time I had to rebel

Kill the King that put me through hell

      Using support I could dethrone

That ruling addiction, my life was my own

I gained freedom a day at a time

And now I write this recovery rhyme.
