October
On an Irish country road
Strolling
Eating blackberries from the laden bush.
Dodging speeding cars
With drivers unaware
Of risks a gambler takes
While sucking juice from the loom.
Sublimating.
Recalling other days
And other juices
Which dried up fast
Leaving no purple finger stains
But only emptiness and heartache.
