Today I sit here on recovery day number one,

Unsure if recovery really can be done.

I loved my slots you see

But without me noticing they took over me.

They had this frightening tight grasp

But I decided today would be the last,

I am taking my life back

So slots you have got the sack!

          Whether it’s said
          In prose or verse
          Keep your money
          In your purse
          Day One Recovery,
          Very well done!
          Time to quit
          You’ve had your fun.
You love the slots when on a roll
But slots can take your life and soul
          Your peace of mind
          Your pride, your strength
          So kiss them goodbye,
          And write poems at length.

Today I went back into the dark
That dark place that captures me
The same place that changes me.

            Who am I
            What have I become
Why does this feel like home
            Like normality

            This time I click refresh
            And start again
            I try
            I try harder

            Now what do I do
            I move forward
            Not backward

Now is the time to change
            Day one over again
            I can do this
            Will I do this
            This time I can!

              Day 5 feeling rough
              Reading your poems
              Helps me stop
