In October, Gordon Moody hosted panel events at the Conservative and Labour Party Conferences to raise awareness of our services and to discuss the implications of the Gambling White Paper with key political stakeholders across the political spectrum. Representatives from our National Gambling Support Network partners joined us on the panels to highlight the crucial role of the third sector in providing treatment for gambling-related harms.
We were delighted that the Gambling Minister, the RT Hon Stuart Andrew MP, agreed to sit on the panel at the Conservative Party Conference. The panel chair, Gordon Moody CEO Matthew Hickey, led the discussion on the importance of providing stable funding for gambling treatment services.
At the Labour Party Conference, we were joined by Jenny Rathbone MS – a key voice on gambling policy in the Welsh Senedd. There, the Gordon Moody team again set out the vital role that gambling treatment plays in reducing harms.
We were pleased with the level of interest in our work at both conferences and look forward to further discussions with MPs when we host a Parliamentary Briefing in November 2023.
Our thanks go to our guest speakers: Graham England, CEO of Ara; Dr Jane Rigbye, CEO of Ygam; and Dr John McAlaney, from Bournemouth University for making our conference season such a success. Thanks also go to Sarah Forshaw, Head of Service Development at Gordon Moody, for setting out our organisation’s unique and vital role within the gambling treatment ecosystem at both conferences.
